In the Cree language of our ancestors “KIKINO” means “Our home” and we invite all to come to our home on Whitefish Lake and enjoy the beauty of the area. The Adrian Hope Silver Birch Resort is owned and operated by settlement members since 1988, and is located on the tranquil shores of Whitefish Lake, Alberta.
The Silver Birch originally became a resort in 1998 and was named in honour of a long time resident Mr. Adrian Hope (1903-1986). Hope was a well-known Canadian who raised the Metis profile in part by virtue of his own fame. Called the Canadian Kid, over his lifetime, Mr. Hope was a rancher, rodeo cowboy, movie extra, poet, fisherman, educator and political leader. Together with Joseph Dion, Jim Brady, Malcolm Norris and Peter Tomkins he formed L’Association des Métis de l’Alberta et les Territories du Nord Ouest in December of 1932. He lived in a cabin on the shores of Whitefish Lake where our resort is located. It was a dream of Mr. Hope that this area become a recreation area for all people to enjoy. We are proud that his vision is something we can share with others.
Over time, the Resort has evolved from 4 cabins and 30 camp stalls to over 90 sites and 9 Cabin units to accommodate families or groups for year round enjoyment. We also have an on-site manager, 24-hour security, a gas & convenience store, a conference centre, a picnic area and playground, clean washrooms, coin operated showers, wifi capabilities, boat launch, hiking and horse trails and a sandy beach front.
The Kikino Silver Birch Resort & Campground is the winner of the 2010 & 2011 Golden Ski Award for the BEST Campsite of the year. This award is based on staff friendliness, campsite cleanliness, washroom cleanliness, friendly atmosphere, and camping rates. This Golden Ski is a symbol for the hard work and constant commitment for tourism that visitors view as the best campsite of the year.
